What is your why?
When you are starting a business every person you network with, each discovery call, your family and friends will all ask you the same thing. “Why?” “Why have you started this business?” What made you decide to do this?” “Who are you doing this for?”
We are asked what we want to be when we grow up as children. Chances are if you think about what your answer was back then it might not be where you are now. That could be for many reasons. One of the biggest reasons being that you discovered something you are passionate about. Steve Jobs said “You have to be burning with an idea, or a problem, or a wrong that you want to right. If you’re not passionate enough from the start, you’ll never stick it out.” Once you find something your passionate about chances are you will stick with it. Whether that be a lifestyle you want to have, people you want to help, the ability to control your own hours, or discoveries that you get to make.
We grow over time and continue to evolve. If you asked me 10 years ago where I thought I would be now I would have said I would be a Concert Organizer. I was lucky enough to have this opportunity while still a student to see what it was like and completely fell in love with it. What changed? I still love concerts and events yes! But, I realized that I wanted to have the ability to make my own schedule and organize my time so I could provide the best life for my family possible.
Everyone changes over time. Chances are even your passion will change. You need to ensure that whatever you do makes you happy deep down or you will eventually turn to not enjoy it.
